Travel through history during a week-long summer camp at DeBary
Hall!
Each day will highlight a specific period in DeBary Hall’s
140-year history, focusing on the headlines, fashions, foods and
entertainment of the period.
MONDAY: Late 1800s
Learn about early Florida frontier life, wildlife survival
skills, Victorian traditions, the Industrial Revolution, and
technological advances at DeBary Hall.
TUESDAY: Early 1900s
Learn about early toys and games and how natural disasters, such
as the 1900 Galveston hurricane and 1906 San Francisco
earthquake, affect history.
WEDNESDAY: 1930s
Listen to radio shows, learn about Chicago gangsters, and see
how children’s lives were different then. Campers will play
board games and sample candy bars that were produced in the ‘30s
and are still popular.
THURSDAY: 1950s and 1960s
Develop art projects and learn about life in the ‘50s and ‘60s,
when the Florida Federation of Art used DeBary Hall as its
headquarters. Campers will experiment with painting and drawing
styles inspired by such artists as Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo,
Vincent Van Gogh, Michelangelo and John James Audubon, whose
work is on display in DeBary Hall.
FRIDAY: 1990s
Learn about the restoration of DeBary Hall in the 1990s.
Archaeologists from the Florida Public Archaeology Network will
teach campers basic archaeology skills.
Time Travelers Camp is designed for children ages 7 - 12.
Fee: $65 plus a one-time $25 registration fee

and managed by
Volusia County’s Division of Parks, Recreation and
Culture.
